Position Description

The Bridge Partnership is an initiative facilitated by Bridgewater State University, to provide academic and enrichment activities for students enrolled in grade 7 at Roosevelt Middle School in New Bedford, MA, East, North, and South Middle Schools in Brockton, and a Middle School in Boston. Two groups of 100 students will reside in East Hall to participate in separate on-campus sessions from July 8th to July 20th and July 22nd to the August 3rd 2018.

Assigned in groups, Program Assistants will perform leadership and mentoring duties to support an array of enrichment activities both on and off-campus. They include supervising the movement of 10-member student teams to classes, various activity locations, and meals in the dining facility; the facilitation of activities such as, games, physical exercise, evening enrichment activities and other fun-filled events. Throughout, they will serve as mentors and counselors to the middle school students whenever necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) With another Program Assistant, directly supervise the activities of 10 middle school students.
2) Ensure the safety of those students during all activities and movement to various locations.
3) Lead a variety of events such as games, club meetings and other planned activities.
4) Accompany students on off-campus trips.
5) Mentor and counsel students whenever necessary.
6) Ensure the safety of students at all times.
7) Ensure the cleanliness of the dormitory.
8) Perform any other duties necessary to ensure that the program operates effectively.

There will be a mandatory training Monday May 14 – Saturday May 19 from 9:30am – 3:30pm

Preferred Qualifications

• Current full-time enrollment, in good standing, at Bridgewater State University.
• The physical ability to lead activities and accompany student groups to various locations on and off campus.
• Verifiably excellent communication skills.
• Experience running student-centered programs.
• Ability to understand and be responsive to the needs and concerns of ethnically diverse students. underrepresented populations, individuals with disabilities, and others.
• Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, or CV Creole preferred.
